Sentences Handed Down, But No One Jailed

Nearly a decade after Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint in a Paris luxury apartment, French courts delivered a verdict this week: eight men were found guilty in connection to the $10 million heist. Yet in a surprising outcome, none of the convicted individuals—most in their 60s or 70s—will return to prison due to time served and suspended sentences.

Ringleader Aomar Aït Khedache was sentenced to eight years with five suspended, while accomplices Yunis Abbas, Didier Dubreucq, and Marc-Alexandre Boyer each received seven-year terms with five suspended. The judge cited the men’s health and advanced age in his decision, stating, “It would have been unjust to take you to prison this evening.”

A Violent Crime with Lasting Scars

The 2016 robbery took place during Paris Fashion Week when five men disguised as police officers forced their way into Kardashian’s rented apartment, tied her up at gunpoint, and stole an estimated $10 million in jewelry. One piece—a diamond-encrusted cross—was later recovered. But Kardashian, who testified during the trial, told the court: “I absolutely thought I was going to die.”

Apologies, DNA, and Unanswered Questions

Khedache’s DNA was found at the scene, and wiretap evidence linked him to diamond sales from the loot. During the trial, Abbas offered an apology to Kardashian. Additional convictions included Khedache’s son and others who played supporting roles; most received suspended sentences of three to five years.

Two individuals accused of tipping off the robbers about Kardashian’s location were acquitted. The leniency of the sentences—given the severity of the crime—has raised eyebrows globally, especially as most of the stolen jewelry remains missing.

Kardashian Responds to the Verdict

In a statement following the ruling, Kardashian said: “While I’ll never forget what happened, I believe in the power of growth and accountability and pray for healing for all.” She thanked French authorities for their work and reiterated her commitment to “advocating for justice” within a fair legal system.

Though this chapter of the case has closed, the robbery remains a defining moment in Kardashian’s life—one that reshaped her public persona and personal priorities. As for the so-called “grandpa robbers,” they walk free, but the legacy of their crime lingers on.
