Republican lawmakers are questioning why a highly controversial influencer and proponent of the theory that 9/11 was an inside job accompanied Donald Trump to his debate against Kamala Harris and then on to a 9/11 memorial event in New York. Laura Loomer was also with the former President when he visited Shanksville, Pennsylvania, to remember those who died on United Flight 93, on which passengers took on the hijackers and brought down the plane. It was thought to be on its way to the US Capitol building.
GOP consultant Dennis Lennox is worried that Loomer is filling Trump’s head with unverified claims, and this was partly to blame for his poor debate performance against Kamala Harris in Philadelphia. “That’s what happens when you wing it, live in the Fox News, X bubble, and rely upon Matt Gaetz, let alone Laura Loomer,” Lennox said.
The Trump campaign responded to increasing calls for the Republican to distance himself from Loomer, saying she played no part in Mr. Trump’s debate preparation and “doesn’t interfere.” However, the former President frequently praises the divisive commentator, which is likely to raise more eyebrows given her recent comments about the Vice President.
Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene lashed out at Loomer, calling her remarks “appalling and extremely racist” and not representative of the Republican Party or the MAGA movement. In response, Loomer accused Taylor Greene of jealousy and of conspiring with others to sabotage Donald Trump.
Ms. Loomer frequently describes the Vice President in unflattering terms, but in her latest scandal, she tweeted that if Harris wins November’s election, the White House will smell of curry, and call centers will devise speeches.
Rep. Taylor Greene has long urged Trump to stay away from Loomer, calling her “mentally unstable.”
The row between the two women continued on Twitter, with Loomer increasing her attacks on Taylor Greene. She called her a “raging antisemite” and accused her of cheating on her husband. Loomer also remained defiant in her refusal to delete the tweet about Kamala Harris.
The Trump campaign said, “We’re staying out of it.”
