(RepublicanInformer.com)- Last week, in the latest tabloid trial “captivating” nobody outside of the media, actress Amber Heard was questioned on the stand about a previous incident of domestic assault between her and a former romantic partner.
Heard is being sued for defamation by her ex-husband, actor Johnny Depp, over a 2016 opinion piece she wrote for The Washington Post about domestic violence. Not to be outdone, Heard has countersued Deep for $100 million.
During cross-examination last week, Depp’s attorney Camille Vasquez grilled Heard about a 2009 domestic abuse incident with her then-girlfriend Tasya van Ree. Vasquez repeatedly tried to get Heard to confirm that she committed domestic violence against van Ree, but Heard repeatedly denied it.
When Vasquez noted that the incident, which took place at an airport in Seattle, was witnessed by others and reported in the press, Heard claimed that the story was “planted” by Depp’s “team” two days after she obtained a temporary restraining order against him.
Vasquez pressed on, reading a 2020 headline about the incident which claimed Heard “grabbed, struck her ex-girlfriend at the airport.” She followed up by once again asking Heard to confirm that Johnny Depp isn’t the only partner she’s assaulted.
Heard denied ever assaulting Depp or anyone with whom she’s been romantically involved.
In 2016, USA Today reported on the incident between Heard and van Ree, noting that authorities confirmed that Amber Heard was arrested at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport for allegedly hitting van Ree in the arm during a heated dispute. Heard was arrested for fourth-degree misdemeanor assault, but prosecutors declined to press charges against the actress.
In the USA Today report, Tasya van Ree said the incident had gotten blown out of proportion and suggested that the authorities who witnessed it were misogynists and homophobic. Van Ree told USA Today that she was disheartened that Heard was getting dragged through the mud over the incident. Calling Heard “brilliant, honest, and beautiful,” van Ree told USA Today that she has “the utmost respect for her” and the two remain close.
