Advancing AI Infrastructure with Clean Energy Focus

President Joe Biden has taken a significant step towards advancing the United States’ position in Artificial Intelligence (AI) development while simultaneously addressing clean energy concerns. An executive order signed by Biden directs federal agencies to accelerate the construction of large-scale data centers and clean power facilities, emphasizing the critical role of AI in national security and improving American lives.

So that’s more power to censor, restrict energy freedom, and take jobs from humans as the U.S. plows ahead with AI development.

Scary.

The order instructs federal departments, including Defense and Energy, to identify at least three sites for private sector AI data centers on government-owned land. This move aims to streamline the often lengthy permitting process for such facilities, potentially giving the U.S. a competitive edge in AI development.

A key aspect of the executive order is its focus on sustainable energy. Developers building on federal sites will be required to provide their own clean power sources for the data centers, ensuring that the push for AI advancement does not come at the cost of increased environmental damage or higher energy prices for American consumers.

“We will not let America be out-built when it comes to the technology that will define the future, nor should we sacrifice critical environmental standards and our shared efforts to protect clean air and clean water,” President Biden said.

The Interior Department has been tasked with identifying lands suitable for clean energy development to support these AI data centers. This initiative aims to reduce bottlenecks in connecting data centers to renewable energy sources, preventing potential blackouts and ensuring energy reliability.

The executive order also addresses economic concerns by mandating public labor agreements for construction on federal sites. Some sites will be reserved for small and medium-sized AI companies, potentially fostering competition and innovation in the sector. Additionally, the Energy Department will assist with electricity tariff designs and conduct a study on how AI data centers might affect electricity prices.

This can’t be good, can it?
