(RepublicanInformer.com)- According to a Thursday report, William Barr, who served as Attorney General under then-President Donald Trump, is in negotiations to collaborate with the congressional committee investigating the January 6th disturbance at the US Capitol.
According to a person familiar with Barr’s thinking, he is likely to cooperate with the committee. A spokesperson for the Jan. 6 committee, Tim Mulvey, declined to comment.
The committee has yet to decide whether or not to call Barr to testify during the public hearings, which begin in June.
Barr believes that Trump grew enraged with him because he dismissed Trump’s accusations of electoral fraud during the 2020 presidential election.
Barr said in March that he informed him that all of this election fraud nonsense was nonsense. And it was wrong to shovel it out the way as his staff did.
Barr earlier told the Associated Press that he had found no proof of widespread electoral fraud.
He said that to date, he had not detected fraud on a scale that may have influenced the election outcome to date.
On December 14, Barr resigned from the Department of Justice.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi established the House select committee last year to look into the attack on the Capitol on January 6, when hundreds of Trump supporters converged on the Capitol as Congress tallied the electoral votes, a primarily ceremonial last step validating Mr. Biden’s victory.
During the violence, lawmakers were forced to leave. Trump, who asked supporters to march peacefully to the Capitol before the electoral vote count, was impeached by the House a week later for inciting the riot. The Senate subsequently acquitted him.
According to individuals familiar with the case, Barr has already met with the committee informally, including a meeting at his home last autumn with committee attorneys and committee Vice Chairwoman Liz Cheney, the rabid Trump-hating Republican from Wyoming.
