Liberal comedian Bill Maher last weekend compared the “woke” Left’s obsession with race to that of the Ku Klux Klan, the Washington Examiner reported.
Maher appeared on “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast last Saturday, where host Joe Rogan described that the comedian as a liberal from a time before the Left went insane.
Rogan noted that contemporary liberals demand that everyone on their team toe the line and “subscribe to the most fringe ideas” that they are promoting while not allowing anyone to disagree.
Maher said he has always argued that a liberal is a “different animal” from the “woke” Left. He said those who are “woke” are not “an extension of liberalism” but are “undoing” liberalism.
As an example, Maher noted that traditional liberals seek a “color-blind” society whereas “woke” Leftists believe that race is “the thing you should always see everywhere.” He said the attitude is “interesting” coming from the Left since it mirrors the attitude of the Ku Klux Klan.
Maher added that the “woke” Left can take that position if they want, but nobody should describe it as a “liberal position.”
Rogan suggested that while it may appear that the Left is trying to “correct a societal imbalance” by propping up minorities, in reality, “the way to achieve true equality is to cast aside race” and judge people on merit while also “recognizing the real problems” in the country.
Rogan added that if the real problems aren’t addressed, people might get “stuck in” without any recourse.
Rogan suggested that it is a lack of financial opportunity and not race that is the real problem in the country. He said a lot of the policies coming from Leftist leaders in places like Portland and San Francisco aren’t addressing the extreme poverty and crime, but instead are just exacerbating it.
