CNN Host Jake Tapper Slams Biden’s Post-Debate Interview

CNN anchor Jake Tapper suggested last week that President Biden’s July 8 call-in interview with MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” would do little to allay concerns voters have about his ability to serve another four years in office.

During his interview, Biden doubled down on his pledge to stay the course and attempted to go on the offensive against those who have called for him to drop out of the race, daring them to challenge his nomination at the Democratic National Convention next month.

In the July 8 broadcast of CNN’s “The Lead,” host Jake Tapper played a segment from the “Morning Joe” interview in which Biden attacked the “elites” in the Democrat Party. Tapper suggested that the president was trying to frame the debate as a battle between average Democrat voters and wealthy donors and pundits.

However, Tapper, who co-moderated the Atlanta presidential debate, noted that most of the so-called “elites” in the Democrat Party were “late to acknowledge” the concerns over Joe Biden’s age while average voters have long been expressing concerns. He argued that the “elites” were only “forced to reckon with it” after the June 27 debate.

Tapper also read out a direct quote of Biden’s from the “Morning Joe” interview that was incomprehensible and, with some irony, noted that the interview was supposed to reassure Democrat voters “who have gone wobbly.”

The CNN anchor said many of the Democrat officials he had spoken to were worried that the president, his family, and his closest advisors were not only “in complete denial” about his cognitive problems but also with the current “state of his candidacy.”

Tapper also criticized the White House for not holding a press conference with the president after his alarming debate performance to demonstrate that Biden was capable of answering questions about his plans and policies for a second term in a cogent way, despite repeated calls for him to do so.
