(RepublicanInformer.com)- A Gallup poll conducted in March found that a staggering 76 percent of respondents disapprove of the job Congress is doing while only 21 percent approve.
In March 2021, Congress enjoyed an ever-so-slight bump in approval after it managed to pass the inflation-causing American Rescue Plan, edging its approval up to a 12-year high of 31 percent. It’s been downhill ever since with Congress’ approval rating hovering between 18 percent and 23 percent since October.
This doesn’t come as a galloping shock. While Americans get crushed by 40-year-high inflation and ever-increasing consumer prices, Congress last week was busy passing a bill making marijuana legal. These are not people with their fingers on the pulse of the country.
According to Gallup, abysmal congressional approval is largely due to declining support for Democrat Party. Between December 2020 and February 2021, Gallup found congressional Democrats enjoyed a boost in approval from 50 percent to 61 percent.
But by June 2021, approval for congressional Democrats plummeted to 38 percent. By the beginning of 2022, their approval dropped by double-digits to 26 percent. Since the start of the year, Gallup found approval for congressional Democrats rebounded a bit to 35 percent.
It certainly hasn’t helped congressional Democrats that President Biden has been consistently polling underwater since September of 2021.
In last week’s Harvard/Harris poll, Biden was 16-points underwater with only 39 percent approving and 55 percent disapproving.
In the same poll, Congress was 23 points underwater, with 34 percent approval and 57 percent disapproval.
In its generic congressional vote, the Harvard/Harris poll had Republicans up 6 points over Democrats, 53 percent to 47 percent.
Like several other polls, Harvard/Harris also found that Joe Biden’s support among Hispanics is cratering. Only 37 percent of Hispanics, 36 percent of whites, and 66 percent of blacks approve of the President.
The Harvard/Harris poll found that Republicans enjoy 50 percent approval among respondents while Democrats only have 42 percent approval.
