Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is a lifelong Democrat running for President as an independent in this year’s November election. Now he’s openly accusing the Democratic National Committee of attempting to rig the upcoming Presidential elections in favor of Vice President Kamala Harris in the wake of the withdrawal of incumbent President Joe Biden.
Sunday July 21st turned into an unexpectedly hopping news day when Joe Biden released a signed letter to social media announcing that he has decided not to continue seeking re-election—something that no sitting first-term President has done since 1968.
In his statement, Biden avowed that holding the office of President was the greatest honor of his life. He further said that he has come to believe that withdrawing his re-election bid is in the interests both of his political party and of the United States of America. He said also that he intends to devote all his available energies towards fulfilling his Presidential duties for the remainder of his term.
Biden also endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor and recommended that the Democrat party confirm his judgment and nominate her as their candidate for the general election.
Biden’s withdrawal follows most of the state primaries, so voters will not have a substantial say in who the party nominates except and unless the Democrats hold a so-called “open” convention. But both online and in the halls of power, prominent Democrats have already rallied around Harris. According to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., this shows that the leadership of the party intends to deny voters a choice in the matter.
Kennedy voiced support for Biden’s decision to step down, as the infirmity displayed by the President has been obvious for years now to any “unbiased observer.” Biden’s public deterioration and his abandonment of the principles that Kennedy views as foundational to the Democrat party are what Kennedy says spurred him to launch his Presidential campaign in the first place.
