(RepublicanInformer.com)- The lawyer representing Derek Chauvin, the former police officer found guilty of murdering George Floyd during an arrest last year, has requested a new trial citing jury misconduct and more.
The request for a new trial will come as no surprise to anybody who saw how President Joe Biden and far-left Rep. Maxine Waters incited division and anger over the case. Waters even called on protestors to get “more confrontational” if Chauvin was not found guilty – something the judge overseeing the case admitted could have been grounds for a mistrial or an appeal.
Politico reported on the news by noting that Chauvin “is white” – as if that matters – and reminded readers that Chauvin was convicted of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter last month.
Eric Nelson, Chauvin’s attorney, said that he is requesting the new trial in the interest of justice, suggesting that his client did not receive a fair trial because Judge Peter Cahill violated his client’s right to due process when he denied a request to move the trial to a different county because of the pretrial publicity.
When far-left extremists are threatening to riot if a jury doesn’t convict, and almost the entirety of the mainstream media is against the defendant, how can the trial be fair?
Nelson explained how the publicity of the trial resulted in “intimidation” of the jury and that it had a “far-reaching chilling effect” on the ability of the defendant to obtain expert witnesses who were willing to go on the record and defend him.
In what universe is it fair for a defendant to be so heavily condemned by the media mob and left-wing activists that expert witnesses are too terrified to come forward and explain how he is innocent?
“The publicity here was so pervasive and so prejudicial before and during this trial that it amounted to a structural defect in the proceedings,” Nelson said.
If the courts grant the new trial…get ready for another meltdown.
