DHS To Review Domestic Extremism

(RepublicanInformer.com)- On Monday, Biden’s Department of Homeland Security announced that its processes for assessing domestic extremism threats will be changing – potentially meaning that more conservative-minded organizations and activists could soon be labeled “domestic terrorists.”

Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced in a memo that a new internal team would be tasked with determining how to report and respond to domestic extremism. Mayorkas referenced the January 6 riot on Capitol Hill, which Democrats have repeatedly insisted was a right-wing “insurrection” inspired by former President Donald Trump – despite the former president repeatedly condemning the violence and even telling rioters to stop.

“Recent events, including the January 6th attacks on the U.S. Capitol, have highlighted that domestic violent extremism poses the most lethal and persistent terrorism-related threat to our country today,” Mayorkas said in the memo.

“Given the evolving threat landscape and the grave risks posed by domestic violent extremism, including to our employees and operations, I have directed the department to immediately begin a review of how to best prevent, detect, and respond to domestic violent extremism threats within DHS.”

The announcement is a worrying sign that the Department of Homeland Security is shifting its focus away from focusing on terrorism on a more general basis, and instead beginning a politically motivated campaign to smear conservative groups as extremists.

Mayorkas made the announcement just as one of his earlier bulletins expired.

“Some ideologically-motivated violent extremists with objections to the exercise of governmental authority and the presidential transition, as well as other perceived grievances fueled by false narratives, could continue to mobilize to incite or commit violence,” the previous note added.

Mayorkas’s claim is based on the assumption that the grievances of conservatives are based on lies and inaccurate claims – when in reality, concerns about election integrity are so common that polls repeatedly show that Americans want to see strengthened voter integrity laws.

Just this week, a Fox News poll found that a majority of Americans believe that voters would support a mandate for presenting a government-issued photo ID to vote, with 77% in favor.

If the DHS thinks that extremists are being created by “false narratives” about election integrity…does he believe that most of the American public are extremists?
