EPA Surveys Reveal Democrats Caused Massive Water Infrastructure Funding Deficit

While liberals celebrate Biden’s infrastructure spending, America’s water systems are silently crumbling beneath our feet with a staggering $1.2 trillion funding gap. The EPA’s own surveys reveal the Democrat administration has barely scratched the surface of what’s needed to prevent a nationwide water crisis.

At a glance:

• America faces a $1.2 trillion water infrastructure funding deficit over the next 20 years

• Biden’s Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act provided only $12 billion – less than 1% of what’s needed

• Over 9 million dangerous lead service lines remain in use across the country

• The U.S. loses water equivalent to 50 million Olympic-sized swimming pools annually through leaking pipes

• Only 20% of water utilities can fully cover their costs, leaving Americans vulnerable to service failures

America’s $1.2 Trillion Water Crisis

America’s water infrastructure is failing on a massive scale despite Democrats’ claims of addressing infrastructure needs. The EPA’s Clean Watersheds Needs Survey estimates $630.1 billion is needed for water quality projects over the next 20 years to meet Clean Water Act goals, while an additional $625 billion is required for drinking water improvements.

These infrastructure needs have skyrocketed 73% since 2012, primarily due to decades of neglect and the increasing impacts of climate change. The Biden administration’s much-touted Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act allocated just $12 billion for clean water projects – a mere drop in the bucket compared to the trillion-dollar need.

Health Hazards Lurking in Your Tap Water

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) admits “the nation’s water infrastructure is aging and underfunded,” with over 9 million lead service lines continuing to poison Americans. These dangerous pipes, many in Democrat-run cities like Flint, Michigan, pose serious health risks particularly to children and pregnant women.

Meanwhile, household water bills have surged 64% from 2012 to 2023, placing additional financial burdens on hardworking Americans. The projected gap between infrastructure needs and investments will grow to a staggering $620 billion by 2043 if the federal government continues its current inadequate funding approach.

“Access to clean, safe drinking water is essential to protecting public health and safety,” states the EPA, yet the Biden administration has failed to prioritize this fundamental need. Democrat-controlled states California, New York, and Virginia account for a significant portion of the national clean water infrastructure needs.

Failed Leadership Leaves Americans High and Dry

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 2025 Infrastructure Report Card confirms the failure of current policies with dismal grades: drinking water (C-), wastewater (D+), and stormwater (D). These embarrassing scores reflect decades of mismanagement and underinvestment that continued under the Biden administration.

Only 20% of water utilities can fully cover their operational costs, creating a $110 billion funding gap in 2024 that could balloon to $194 billion by 2030. America loses enough water annually through leaking pipes to fill over 50 million Olympic-sized swimming pools, while utilities face mounting challenges from emerging contaminants like PFAS.

“Clean water and sanitation are not luxuries — they’re the lifeblood of civilization,” says Dan Buckley, highlighting the critical nature of this infrastructure. The Trump administration had initiated programs to address these issues, but current federal investments remain woefully inadequate to prevent a looming nationwide water crisis.
