Trevian Kutti, a co-defendant with Donald Trump, said that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis should retire.
This week, Willis appeared in court for a hearing on charges of wrongdoing that allegedly occurred while serving as a public officer. She hired special prosecutor Nathan Wade in November 2021, the same year she took the oath of office as the top prosecutor in Georgia. The key question throughout the hearing is whether she benefitted from their relationship.
In August 2023, Willis brought charges against Trump, Kutti, and seventeen others for conspiring to nullify the 2020 Georgia election.
During Thursday’s evidence, Willis defended herself, although the accusations were first brought up by several former president’s co-defendants, including Trump’s fellow conspirator Mike Roman. According to Roman, Willis made money thanks to her relationship with Wade.
In a significant ongoing case, Willis faces indictment for allegedly making false statements and intimidating witnesses. She is prepared to face her day in court and has often said she is innocent.
According to bank documents revealed during Wade’s divorce proceedings, Willis’s flight was paid for twice by Wade. His wife, Joycelyn Wade, presented the affidavits that prove Willis purchased aircraft tickets for two different trips—one to San Francisco in April 2023 and another to Miami in October 2022.
According to Wade’s statement, Willis reimbursed her for her trip expenditures.
If evidence is produced that supports Roman’s accusations, Judge Scott McAfee has the discretion to elect to remove Willis from the case. She and Wade have admitted to being in a relationship but denied wrongdoing. Trump’s trial might be postponed until after the November presidential election if the matter is transferred to a new prosecutor’s office.
Trump has also made Willis a priority since the allegations surfaced. On February 16, he wrote on Truth Social about how the Georgia Fani Scandal is trending worldwide.
