(RepublicanInformer.com)- You’ve probably heard of the Facebook Oversight Board by now. It’s the collection of professionals and experts pulled together by the social media giant with the intent of holding itself accountable.
The board is best known for its recent decision to uphold Facebook’s decision to ban former President Donald Trump from the platform, a move that ultimately surprised nobody.
And this week, the story about the Oversight Board upholding the decision to ban Trump from the platform got a little more interesting when it was revealed how one of its co-chairs has ties to the Chinese Communist Party.
You just can’t make this stuff up, can you?
Former Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt, one of the highest-profile members of the Oversight Board, reportedly headlined an event hosted by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) – a terrifyingly named propaganda organization that is headed by the daughter of a former Chinese Communist Party leader.
The organization has previously been described by academics as the “public face” of China’s United Front Work Department, and even an “arm of the party-state.”
Why do so many Western politicians keep falling for these traps?
Schmidt was the headline speaker at the “Healthier Future for Children” event in 2017, which was a conference focusing on the work of the “Every Woman Every Child China Partnership Network” at the United Nations. He spoke alongside the Vice President of the CPAFFC, Xie Yuan.
By itself, that story doesn’t seem so shocking. He just spoke at an event, after all.
But look a little closer, and you’ll see the problem.
During the event, the CPAFFC called on participants of the United Nations program to “actively support” an action plan which included provisions such as:
– “to encourage and coordinate members and other Chinese powers to participate more in international cooperation for improving women’s and children’s health under the strategic framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.”
– “to form bigger multi-level platform to share with the world China’s experiences and achievements.”
– “to set up China’s great national image of full responsibility.”
See how they so casually inject propaganda into seemingly positive-sounding messages?
If the Facebook Oversight Board is influenced by China, it’s no wonder they supported the decision to ban Trump…
