It was like something out of a Mission Impossible movie in slow motion. Deputies from Michigan’s Macomb County Sheriff’s Office managed to climb from one moving car into the window of another to rescue a motorist who was having some kind of medical emergency.
The incident took place just after 2 p.m. on September 12. Alarmed motorists called 911 to report that a truck was driving erratically. Deputies Nicole Miron and Anthony Gross were dispatched to the scene and found the truck being driven at about five miles per hour by a 63-year-old man.
Deputy Miron’s body camera footage shows how the two officers lined their police cruiser up with the moving truck and tried to communicate with the driver. He was reportedly dazed and “unable to comprehend requests,” but he eventually pressed the brake pedal and was able to slow his truck down further.
At that point Miron maneuvered herself out of the cruiser and into the driver’s window of the truck while it was still moving. Miron said it was lucky that she is “very small,” and was easily able to slip through the large window in the truck. The fit was so good that her service pistol didn’t get hung up when she “slid through.”
Miron was able to get the car to a halt. Video of the rescue operation can be seen here.
Rescue workers from the Clinton Township Fire Department arrived shortly after to give medical treatment to the driver. The man’s name has not been released, and there are no further details on what kind of medical episode he may have experienced. There is also no word on his condition now, or whether he was taken to a hospital.
Macomb County Sheriff Anthoney Wickersham had nothing but praise for deputy Miron. He said that her “quick thinking and selfless actions” helped to stop what would otherwise have been a “tragic situation.”
