Google Demonetizes Top Conservative Website

( Google has long waged an online war against WND, a Christian journalism organization that has been around for 25 years.

This week, they took yet another step in that war — and possibly their most serious one yet. Google has announced they would be permanently de-monetizing the WND website.

That move could cripple WND financially. The company has said that almost half of all its online advertising revenue comes from Google in some way, shape or form. That’s because not only would de-monetization result in the removal of all Google ads, but also the removal of any ad that came from an alternative advertising service, since many of the companies use the Google Ad Manager to serve their advertising.

In the “Violation Explanation” Google presented to the company, they said WND is loaded down with “dangerous or derogatory content” as well as “misrepresentative content” and “unreliable and harmful claims.”

As Google explained:

“We do not allow content that incites hatred against, promotes discrimination of, or disparages an individual or group on the basis of their race or ethnic origin, religion, disability, age, nationality, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, or other characteristic that is associated with systemic discrimination or marginalization … [or which] harasses, intimidates, or bullies an individual or group of individuals.”

David Kupelian, the vice president and managing editor of WND, fired back with a translation of what Google means in regards to its claims against the company. He explained of Google’s positions against WND:

“That means reporting truthfully and accurately on the Biden administration’s insane mismanagement of the COVID pandemic — from imposing vaccine mandates that are shutting down the country right now, to suppressing early outpatient treatment of COVID with inexpensive, proven-safe-and-effective medications that could have prevented hundreds of thousands of COVID deaths in America … Only the official narrative — the one that is failing at every turn to end the pandemic, while introducing a level of tyranny never before seen in America — is allowed.”

One of the biggest things WND says Google is holding against them is comments posted by users on their site. If Google interprets one of the user’s comments to be derogatory or unreliable, for example, WND is being held responsible for that content.

WND is responding to that claim by temporarily suspending all comments on their stories. This, the company said, will give their tech team the ability to come up with a way to bring back commenting while not losing out on all the advertising revenue that they get from Google that helps to support their site.

Kupelian explained the plan going forward with comments:

“To be clear: Once we bring commenting back online, we will not be censoring comments (unless of course they’re pornographic, obscene, openly racist, promoting violence, etc.), but rather, we’re working on a technological fix that will allow us to restore commenting while also allowing WND to continue to exist.”

It’s just another strike Google is imposing on WND. In the past, they have classified them as an “extremist group,” have de-monetized their YouTube channel, and have written the site out of their algorithms for web searches.
