The Great Migrant Housing Mystery
In a move that’s sure to ruffle some feathers in Washington, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan is turning up the heat on Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra. The burning question? Where exactly are our hard-earned tax dollars going when it comes to housing illegal immigrants? It seems the Biden administration’s open-door policy isn’t just costing us our safety and sovereignty; it’s hitting us right in the wallet too.
Jordan and his committee have been on this case since July 2024, trying to get to the bottom of how the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) is coordinating with other government departments to dole out housing assistance to aliens. But apparently, getting straight answers from this administration is like pulling teeth from a hen – next to impossible.
A Paper Trail Thinner Than Biden’s Border Security
You’d think with all the money being thrown around, there’d be a paper trail a mile long. But no, the Judiciary Committee has received a measly seven pages of documents that tell them absolutely nothing. It’s almost as if the administration doesn’t want us to know where our money is going. Shocking, I know.
“[S]ince July 2024, we have sought information about ORR’s coordination with the State Department, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the Department of Homeland Security to use taxpayer dollars to pay for housing assistance for aliens in the country,” Jordan wrote.
Jordan isn’t mincing words. He’s made it crystal clear that this stonewalling is putting a wrench in the Committee’s ability to do its job. And let’s be real, when it comes to billions of taxpayer dollars, we deserve to know where every penny is going.
New York City: A Five-Star Hotel for Illegals?
While we’re all tightening our belts thanks to Biden’s inflation bonanza, New York City has managed to burn through over $5 billion on migrant services since 2023. That’s billion with a ‘B’, folks. They’re turning historic hotels into shelters and handing out prepaid credit cards like they’re candy. It’s a regular five-star welcome wagon for people who shouldn’t even be here in the first place.
But wait, there’s more! The subpoena isn’t just about following the money. Jordan and his team want answers about the placement of unaccompanied alien children (UAC) and the vetting of their sponsors. You know, little details like how many of these kids are being placed with known sex offenders. Just minor concerns, right?
The Supreme Court Weighs In
Before the left starts crying foul about overreach, let’s remember what the Supreme Court has to say about Congressional oversight. They’ve called it “broad and indispensable,” encompassing everything from how existing laws are administered to studying new ones. In other words, Jordan and his committee are well within their rights to demand these answers.
The clock is ticking for Secretary Becerra. Jordan wants those records by October 30, and something tells me he’s not in the mood for any more runaround. It’s high time we got some transparency on this migrant housing fiasco. After all, it’s our money they’re spending like drunken sailors. The American people deserve answers, and by God, Jim Jordan is going to get them – one way or another.
