Hypersonic Missile Request Made By Pentagon

(RepublicanInformer.com)- You know tensions with China and Russia are serious when the Pentagon is calling on the Biden administration to develop hypersonic missiles…

A report from last week revealed how the Pentagon has pushed the Biden administration to push an “accelerated buying strategy” to achieve a “milestone” in fiscal year 2022, specifically referring to new research and development programs. It comes after a proposal was released on May 28 from Mike White, the principal director for hypersonics at the Pentagon, which stresses the importance of using resources to purchase and develop hypersonic weapons.

White also said during an event hosted by the Center for Strategic and International Studies that the 2022 budget should focus on buying and developing weapons that can travel at Mach 5 or faster.

White is responsible for overseeing the nation’s offensive weapons and defense strategies, as well as reusable aircraft technology.

It’s important to note that there are two different kinds of offensive hypersonic weapons, the first of which is a boost-glide that uses a rocket booster to push rockets to high altitudes and extremely high speeds. The high altitude makes it easier for rockets to travel at high speeds owing to a lack of friction in the upper atmosphere.

The other kind of hypersonic weapon is an air-breathing cruise missile.

White explained how Lockheed Martin is set to be the maker of the first offensive hypersonic weapon that will move out of the development stage and into procurement, and that test flights of their weapon – which is known as “ARRW” – will take place over the next year. They are planning to begin fielding in 2022.

White revealed that all that is now required for the United States to utilize the new technology is for Lockheed Martin to create the weapons and deliver them.

The air-launched cruise missiles are likely to be an extremely important weapon in the United States arsenal as global tensions increase. They will also serve to potentially prevent conflict from foreign adversaries…but then again, China might have already unleashed a weapon on the world back in late 2019, which didn’t require a single weapon…
