(RepublicanInformer.com)- Last week it was reported that the DOJ has charged InfoWars host Owen Shroyer in connection with the January 6 melee at the Capitol after federal prosecutors alleged he broke the terms of a previous deal to avoid charges from an earlier arrest.
Shroyer was charged last Thursday with four misdemeanor counts, including entering a restricted area and disorderly conduct.
Charging documents included screenshots from video showing Shroyer standing in a restricted area of the Capitol grounds beside InfoWars founder Alex Jones and Ali Alexander, the organizer of the January 6 “Stop the Steal” rally.
According to the DOJ, investigators also identified video showing Shroyer at the top of the stairs on the east side of the Capitol building. Shroyer had phoned in from the Capitol grounds to an InfoWars live broadcast on January 6. In the on-air call, Shroyer described what he saw around the Capitol, concluding “We literally own these streets right now.”
Shroyer had previously entered into a deferred prosecution agreement after he was arrested on two misdemeanor charges stemming from a December 2019 incident in which he attempted to disrupt a House Judiciary Committee hearing during the first impeachment of President Donald Trump. During the hearing, Shroyer jumped up and yelled that Americans were “sick of your impeachment scam,” telling Judiciary Chair Jerry Nadler “You’re the one committing treason!”
As part of his deferred prosecution agreement for that 2019 incident, Shroyer was instructed not to engage in disorderly or disruptive conduct in the Capitol grounds or building, nor was he to parade, demonstrate or picket within any Capitol building.
For his 2019 arrest, Shroyer was also required to complete 32 hours of community service. But according to the Justice Department, he had yet to complete any of those hours by January 6, 2021 which means his deferred prosecution agreement was still in effect at the time of the Capitol melee.
Therefore, according to prosecutors, by participating in the January 6, 2021 events, Shroyer broke the terms of that deal.
DC Superior Court records show a summons was issued on Friday afternoon ordering Shroyer to appear before a judge on September 30 to answer for the new charges. On his show Friday, Shroyer said his lawyer had informed him that a warrant had been issued for his arrest and he would turn himself in on Monday.
Shroyer told his viewers that he would plead not guilty to the charges.
