(RepublicanInformer.com)- A January 6 defendant who was arrested in June 2021 and kept in the DC jail on pretrial detention was released last week on bond.
Brian Mock of Minneapolis was arrested in June of last year for allegedly assaulting a federal officer during the 3-hour riot at the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
In addition to charges of assaulting a US Capitol Police officer, Mock is also facing charges of unlawful entry on restricted buildings or grounds, and acts of physical violence on Capitol grounds.
Bodycam footage showed Mock among the crowd who advanced on officers outside of the Capitol. He is seen on footage shoving a US Capitol Police officer to the ground and picking up riot shields and passing them back to rioters.
A warrant for Mock’s Facebook account revealed that he posted multiple comments about participating in the January 6 riot, boasting that Capitol police “fled with fear and tears in their eyes” when confronted by “real men.” He posted that when he kissed his children goodbye to go to DC, he wasn’t sure if he would be coming home.
After his arrest, a Magistrate Judge in Minnesota had ordered Mock released pending trial. But federal prosecutors filed an emergency appeal and a DC federal judge ordered Mock detained until his trial.
He was placed in the DC jail (AKA DC Gulag) where the January 6 defendants are being held.
Mock attempted to gain his release while representing himself but his request was denied in January of this year.
Finally, with actual legal representation, a motion was filed in April to have Mock released until his trial date.
The motion was granted last Monday and Mock was released from the DC Gulag the following day.
Many of those detained in the DC Gulag have been held there since their arrest pending trial. They have not been tried or found guilty of anything.
