MSNBC Axes “The ReidOut” Amid Ratings Slump

In a significant programming shakeup, MSNBC has decided to cancel “The ReidOut,” the evening show hosted by liberal commentator Joy Reid.

Too bad for her!

The decision comes as the network grapples with a sharp decline in viewership, particularly in the aftermath of the recent presidential election. According to Nielsen Media Research, MSNBC’s primetime audience has dwindled by a staggering 53% since November 5th.

Absolutely nobody should be surprised that people don’t tune in to watch Joy Reid.

The cancellation of “The ReidOut” is part of a broader strategy implemented by MSNBC’s new President, Rebecca Kutler, who took the helm on February 12, 2023. Kutler, formerly a Senior Executive at CNN, is tasked with revitalizing the network’s content lineup and addressing the challenges posed by changing viewer preferences and a competitive media landscape.

So, what next? For Joy, we don’t know, but for her slot, the answer is already available.

In place of “The ReidOut,” MSNBC plans to introduce a new panel show featuring co-hosts Alicia Menendez, Michael Steele, and Symone Sanders Townsend. This move reflects the network’s attempt to diversify its programming and potentially appeal to a broader audience. Notably, Sanders Townsend previously served as a spokesperson for Vice President Kamala Harris before joining MSNBC, bringing her political experience to the new show.

“This is going to be a really exciting time but also a challenging time. I think it’s important that we as leaders are honest about that and about the challenges ahead. Our jobs are hard on a normal day, and these are not normal times,” Rebecca Kutler said.

The final episode of “The ReidOut” is expected to air soon, marking the end of Reid’s tenure as a primetime host on MSNBC. Reid, known for her progressive commentary and often controversial statements, had previously hosted “AM Joy” on the network from 2016 to 2020.

Good riddance to bad rubbish…
