Kevin McCarthy Vows To Strip Democrat Leaders Of Special Assignments

( Kevin McCarthy is issuing a warning to Democrats in the House. If Republicans win back control of the lower chamber following this year’s midterm elections, he’ll strip committee assignments away from certain liberals.

This week, the House minority leader promised that committee assignments would be taken away from three House Democrats should the GOP regain control of the chamber.

Those on the chopping block list are California Representatives Eric Swalwell and Adam Schiff, and Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar. This would seemingly be in response to House Democrats removing Republican Representatives Paul Gosar from Arizona and Marjorie Taylor Greene from Georgia from their committee assignments over the last year.

As McCarthy said on Monday:

“The Democrats have created a new thing where they’re picking and choosing who can be on committees. Never in the history [of Congress] have you had the majority tell the minority who can be on committee.”

Some conservatives have criticized McCarthy for not doing enough to protect the members of his party in the House. This move of striking back at Democrats would look to be an effort to do just that.

Since Democrats are the ones who have created this “new game” that McCarthy was describing, it’s likely he’ll jump on board and play, too, if he becomes the Speaker of the House.

In specifically discussing Swalwell, who serves on both the Homeland Security and Intelligence committees in the House, he said:

“If Eric Swalwell cannot get a security clearance in the private sector, there is no reason why he should be given one to be on Intel or Homeland Security.”

What McCarthy was referencing was an incident that happened in 2020, where Swalwell forged a personal relationship with a woman who was later determined to be an agent from the Communist Party in China.

American investigators had to step into the situation and advise Swalwell of the security situation that was developing around this woman, who many have speculated had a romantic relationship with the congressman.

McCarthy didn’t stop with Swalwell, though. He also went on to attack Omar, who has been accused of being anti-Semitic in the past. McCarthy said of her:

“Ilhan Omar should not be serving on Foreign Affairs. This is a new level of what the Democrats have done.”

And one Schiff, who serves as the chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, the Republican leader said:

“You look at Adam Schiff — he should not be serving on Intel when he has openly, knowingly now used a fake dossier, lied to the American public in the process and doesn’t have any ill will [and] says he wants to continue to do it … We need to have an Intel Committee that looks at what’s happening around the world and keeps America safe. It should do exactly what it was created [to do] — overseeing of our agencies and others.

“We’re going to hold people to a higher standard in the process if they want to be on the Intel Committee and the training to be a part of it. Take the politics out of it.”
