Mike Pence Spokesman Claims FEC Filing Document Is Fake

(Republicaninformer.com)- Last Monday, it was reported that former Vice President Mike Pence had officially filed paperwork with the Federal Elections Commission to run for President in 2024. But a spokesman for Mike Pence said the filing was not from the former vice president.

The UK’s Sky News first reported the FEC filing on Monday. That report has since been removed.

A screenshot of the Form 2 “Statement of Candidacy” posted on the FEC’s website went viral on social media. The filing was purportedly submitted by “Mr. Mike Richard Pence” and listed a post office box from Anderson, Indiana.

After eagle-eye reporters noticed that the filing used “Mike” instead of Pence’s given name “Michael,” Pence’s spokesman Devin O’Malley said in a now-deleted tweet that the former vice president had not filed with the FEC to run for president.

While it is not clear who filed the Statement of Candidacy, O’Malley told one Twitter user, “I think someone pranked you.”

The former vice president has said in the past that he is mulling a possible 2024 run.

In an interview with ABC News in November, the former vice president said he and his family planned to discuss over the holidays whether he should run for president.

Pence has also remained cagey over whether he would support Donald Trump in 2024.

In a November interview with USA Today, Pence said he believes there is “a real desire for new leadership in the Republican Party.”

He said while traveling the country, he’s met with people who say they are proud of Trump’s record in office “but almost in the same breath,” they tell him “they want leadership that reflects the respect and civility that most Americans practice every day.”

During a recent interview on CBN News, Pence refused to describe former President Donald Trump as the leader of the Republican Party, calling him instead “a leader” and “an important voice in the party.”

Pence told CBN’s David Brody that he has confidence in Republican primary voters to do what “they’ve done so many times before” by choosing “the right standard bearer for this moment in our history.”
