(RepublicanInformer.com)- Former President Obama joined President Biden’s call to fight against the “gun lobby” after a school massacre in Texas killed 21 people.
At least 19 children and two adults were killed in the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, including the 18-year-old killer Salvador Ramos. Since the 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, the shooting was the worst.
Biden ordered flags to fly at half-mast until Saturday night “in honor of the victims” The president said it was time for the country to “act” by “standing up to the gun lobby,” asking “wherein God’s name is our backbone to deal with and stand up to the lobbies?”
Obama lashed out at Republicans for opposing gun reform and called for action, citing the Sandy Hook and Buffalo grocery shootings. Obama said he and Michelle Obama were “angry for” the victims’ families.
Obama said it is nearly ten years after Sandy Hook—and ten days after Buffalo— and our society is gripped, not by fear, but by a gun lobby and a political party.
He said any action is overdue, and it’s another tragedy for families to wait another day.
During an angry Senate floor address on Tuesday, Connecticut Democrat Chris Murphy bemoaned failed gun control attempts and called those who blamed a national mental health issue for the Texas tragedy “bulls**t.”
While Democrats demanded stronger gun regulation after the shooting, Republicans like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia offered prayers and a “return to God.”
Texas Governor Greg Abbott is slated to attend the NRA’s annual convention days after the tragedy.
Former President Trump will keynote the Houston conference on Friday. Ted Cruz and John Cornyn will also appear.
Notably, firearms will not be permitted inside the event due to Trump’s presence and the requirements of the Secret Service, as stated by the National Rifle Association (NRA).
