Even though it has been weeks since Fox News fired its highest-rated personality, the network has not explained what is arguably the most shocking firing in cable news history.
As a result of the media blackout, a variety of speculations about why Fox fired Carlson emerged. Potential causes include the obvious $787.5 million Dominion settlement.
Another theory- it’s retaliation for Carlson’s sexist and racist text messages revealed in Dominion court documents and the hostile work environment claim by former Fox producer Abby Grossberg in her lawsuit against Carlson.
Unfortunately, none of these alternatives is a perfect fit. Fox News host Maria Bartiromo has been a bigger proponent of the Dominion conspiracy theory than Tucker Carlson, yet she is still with the network.
According to a source, Tucker Carlson is still being paid by Fox News and has not been fired from his employment there. Why Fox News decided to take off the air with its most visible personality is still a mystery.
There is now a new theory to consider. The source alleges that Fox Corp. chief Rupert Murdoch fired Tucker Carlson due to remarks made by Carlson on Friday night at the Heritage Foundation’s 50th-anniversary dinner.
Someone familiar with Murdoch’s deliberations said Carlson’s presentation had overtly religious overtones that even Murdoch found unsettling. The audience at Heritage heard Carlson say that modern American politics has become a battle between “good” and “evil.”
An insider claims that Rupert Murdoch was scared by Tucker Carlson’s messianism because it reminded him of his ex-fiancée Ann Lesley Smith and her end-times beliefs.
Murdoch knew that Carlson and Smith discussed faith in an interview. The insider claims that Carlson had dinner with Murdoch and Smith at Murdoch’s vineyard in Bel Air towards the end of March. Smith, the story goes, began reading aloud from the book of Exodus while they were at the dinner table. As the quote goes, “All Rupert did was sit there and stare.” Murdoch and Smith postponed their wedding a few days after the dinner. By canceling Carlson’s show, Murdoch was taking away his ex-girlfriend’s leading source of television entertainment.
It’s a theory as good as any other.
