When you think of Russell Crowe, you probably think Hollywood, wealth, luxury…and while you’d mostly be right, it turns out that the legendary actor still has to “work for a living” even after appearing in some of the biggest movies of all time.
During an interview on The Joe Rogan Experience, 60-year-old Russell Crowe offered a look at the reality of being a movie star, and revealed that he hasn’t made as much money as other megastars like Daniel Day-Lewis.
Rogan initiated the conversation by describing Day-Lewis as a “weird dude,” noting how he seems to completely disappear from the spotlight only to return a few years later when he appears in a new film. That’s when Crowe noted that, every time Day-Lewis appears in the spotlight again, he comes back “with a vengeance and a fury,” praising him for having such an immensely popular stage presence and successful career.
“Some of us have to work for a living, mate, you know?” Crowe joked, adding that Day-Lewis must be incredibly independently wealthy in order to maintain the luxurious kind of lifestyle he does.
It seemed to suggest that Crowe doesn’t have quite the same experience as Day-Lewis. Not only does he continue to appear in the movies, but Crowe is also touring with his band, Indoor Garden Party. His U.S.-wide tour is currently promoting their new album, Prose and Cons.
It’s hard to really say how much money anybody has, but Crowe’s words may have been somewhat tongue-in-cheek. While Crowe likely has to continue to work to maintain his lifestyle, it’s hard to imagine that a movie star so well-recognized would struggle to stay afloat and enjoy at least a comfortable lifestyle if he decided to stop working. Surely, right?
Crowe’s appearance on Joe Rogan has been somewhat controversial – to the extent that every time Rogan says anything, left-wing extremists have something to say about it. Crowe seemed to address that very issue during the podcast, expressing his thanks to Rogan for having the kind of conversation that are hard to have elsewhere.
“I want to thank you for being a voice that accepts different opinions,’ Crowe said.
