Russia Applauds Trump’s Ukraine Policy

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has publicly commended President Donald Trump for his approach to the Ukraine conflict, highlighting what he describes as Trump’s diplomatic acumen and understanding of Russia’s role in potential peace negotiations. The praise comes as Trump prepares to return to the White House following his election victory, with the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war representing one of the most significant foreign policy challenges awaiting his administration.

Amazingly, Lavrov particularly praised Trump’s interaction with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during their time in the Oval Office. He suggested that Trump, unlike Biden administration officials and European leaders, recognizes the necessity of including Russia in any meaningful resolution to the conflict that has raged since February 2022.

“Common Sense” Diplomacy

The Russian diplomat described Trump as a leader who brings practical solutions to complex geopolitical problems, contrasting his approach with those of previous Democratic administrations. According to Lavrov, Trump’s foreign policy philosophy represents a marked departure from the globalist visions pursued by Presidents Biden and Obama.

“Donald Trump is a pragmatist. His slogan is common sense. It means a transition to a different way of doing things,” Lavrov said.

Lavrov went further in his praise, connecting Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan to his style of leadership.

“But the goal is still MAGA (Make America Great Again). Now he has a new cap: ‘Everything that Donald Trump promised, he did.’ This gives a lively, human character to politics. That’s why it is interesting (to work) with him,” Lavrov added, suggesting that Russian officials view Trump as a more predictable and consistent negotiating partner than his predecessors.

In the same statements, Lavrov sharply criticized European proposals to deploy peacekeeping forces in Ukraine without Russian involvement or consent. He described such plans as “impudent” and fundamentally flawed, arguing they would exacerbate tensions rather than resolve the underlying conflict. The Russian Foreign Minister emphasized that any viable peace settlement would require agreement from all parties involved in the conflict, including Russia.

Make no mistake: this change of attitude from Russia is a remarkable turning point in this war.
