“Squad Members” Paid Whopping $325k On Armed Security While Pushing For Gun Control

(RepublicanInformer.com)- Members of the ultra-liberal so-called “Squad” in the House have spent much of the last few years rally for crazy socialist policies like defunding the police.

Meanwhile, many of those same people spent hundreds of thousands of dollars hiring private security to protect them in 2021.

Fox News Digital recently reviewed records released by the Federal Election Commission, and found that Squad members spent more than $325,000 collectively on private security teams last year.

Missouri Representative Cori Bush spent more than $65,000 in just the fourth financial quarter. In total, he spent $200,000 last year to hire private security firms such as Whole Armor Executive Protection and Peace Security. Bush’s bill was more than all the other Squad members’ bills for last year.

Bush was sworn into office just last year, and has staunchly supported defunding the police. Last August, he told CBS News that “defunding the police has to happen,” and the money that is currently dedicated to them should be put into “social safety nets because we’re trying to save lives.”

It’s ironic, of course, that Bush would then turn around and spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to hire private security firms to protect him. The millions of Americans who would undoubtedly suffer if the police were defunded simply don’t have those funds to hire private security firms themselves.

Bush was asked recently about all that money he spent, and he got very defensive, replying:

“You would rather me die? Is that what you want to see? You want to see me die?”

Other members of the Squad also spent money on private security firms. New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez spent approximately $75,000 total in 2021, and $9,800 during the fourth quarter.

She has been a very vocal proponent of doing away with police forces. In June of 2020, roughly one month after George Floyd died in Minneapolis while in police custody, AOC said:

“Defunding the police means defunding the police. It does not mean budget tricks or funny mat. It does not mean moving school police officers from the NYPD budget to the Department of Education’s budget so the exact same police remain in schools.”

Ilhan Omar, a representative from Minnesota, suggested that the Minneapolis Police Department should be completely dismantled, labeling it as “rotten to the root.”

Yet, Omar also spent more than $30,000 to hire private security firms to protect her in 2021.

Those are the three most prominent members of the Squad, and the ones who spent the most on private security firms, but they aren’t the only ones.

Massachusetts Representative Ayanna Pressley spent $14,000. New York Representative Jamaal Bowman spent $7,872. Michigan Representative Rashida Tlaib spent about $3,000.

In June of 2020, Pressley supported radical ideas of defunding the police, which she called “about true reparations” as well as “investment in communities.” Speaking with CNN then, she said:

“I support a radical re-imagining of community safety and public safety, which means re-allocating and not further investing in a carceral state.”

It sounds convincing enough — until you realize that these same people who want to do away with America’s safety blanket are using their loads of funds they have at their disposal to hire their own private security that most Americans would never be able to afford.
