(RepublicanInformer.com)- One of the unfortunate side effects of the necessary withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan, according to reports from United States intelligence agencies, is that women’s rights in the country are likely to be curtailed by the conservative Muslims in the Taliban.
It comes as President Joe Biden prepares to withdraw American troops in September – five months after President Donald Trump planned to withdraw the remaining U.S. troops in the country – finishing a job that the American people wanted to be done years ago.
The unfortunate consequence of finally bringing American troops home is just another sign of how much of the rest of the world has entirely different attitudes to equality than the United States – and a sign that American feminists should probably be focusing their efforts overseas rather than here at home.
According to an unclassified report that was released b the Director of National Intelligence on Tuesday, the Taliban is “broadly consistent in its restrictive approach to women’s rights and would roll back much of the past two decades’ progress if the group regained national power.”
It could be an effort by intelligence agencies to encourage the Democrats to rethink the plan and keep America involved in the world’s affairs – and in Afghanistan – permanently.
General Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, warned on Sunday that there could be “some really dramatic, bad possible outcomes” for Afghani forces if left to deal with the Taliban alone.
“We simply don’t know yet,” he said.
During the 1990s during Taliban rule, women were largely required to stay at home and young girls were not given access to education.
Today, around two-thirds of the population of Afghanistan are under the age of 25 and have zero memory of the Taliban being in charge – meaning any possible changes will come as a real shock.
