(RepublicanInformer.com)- According to one of the leading Democrats in the House of Representatives, a large number of people in her party are always looking for ways that they can attack Israel’s government.
This week, Michigan Representative Elissa Slotkin made those comments on social media following leaders from her party removing a provision that helps fund the Iron Dome in Israel.
The provision was removed from the short-term government spending bill for the dome, which helps to protect Israeli citizens from various terrorist attacks, such as ones that happened earlier in 2021 from Gaza.
Axios reported that there “has never been a situation where military aid for Israel was held up because of objections from members of Congress. While the funding will get a vote in its current defense bill, the clash underscores the deep divisions within the Democratic party over Israel.”
Slotkin took matters into her own hands and went to Twitter. There, she said the policy positions that are definitively anti-Israel by some Democrats are “devoid of substance” and “irresponsible.”
While she didn’t call out specific Democrats, she did tweet:
“Iron Dome is purely a *defensive* system — it protects civilians when hundreds of rockets are shot at population centers. Whatever your views on the Israeli-Pal conflict, using a system that just saved hundreds, if not thousands, of lives as a politic chit is problematic.
“Iron Dome, like other missile defense systems, was co-developed by the US and Israel. The research that went into the design of this system is shared between our two countries and can be used to protect our bases abroad, in addition to Israeli civilians in their homes.
“Continued financial support of Iron Dome was part of the 2016 Memorandum of Understanding negotiated by President Obama. This isn’t new funding, or unusual funding, or a precipitous increase in funding. All of this is publicly-available information. So to target Iron Dome now means the issue isn’t a genuine concern over the system, but rather the desire to attack something — anything — related to the State of Israel; it’s devoid of substance and irresponsible.”
Slotkin has remained silent in the past when asked directly about certain Democrats’ anti-Israel stances. She was point blank asked in 2019 whether two members of “The Squad,” Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar, should have to face consequences for anti-Semitism, but she wouldn’t answer those questions.
Now, it seems she’s simply had enough.
Slotkin also isn’t alone in her disappointment and disagreement over holding up funding for the Iron Dome. Florida Representative Ted Deutch, also a Democrat, expressed his thoughts on Twitter when he wrote:
“Iron Dome is a defensive system used by one of our closest allies to save civilian lives. It needs to be replenished because thousands of rockets were fired by the Hamas terrorists who control Gaza. Consider this my pushing back against this decision.
“Last December, the House voted to fund missile defense for our ally Israel. Since then, Iron Dome has saved the lives of Israelis and Palestinians when Hamas fired 4,300 rockets. Missile defense saves the lives of people terrorists want to kill. That’s why we must support it.”
Some progressives in the Democratic party simply won’t step down from their anti-Israeli stances, though.
