(RepublicanInformer.com)- One of Donald Trump’s personal lawyers said the Manhattan district attorney has no plans to bring criminal charges against the Trump Organization related to “hush money” payments or alleged manipulations to the value of real estate.
On Monday, Ronald Fischetti said he met with Manhattan DA Cy Vance and asked him directly what charges his office was considering. According to a Politico report, Fischetti said Vance’s team was considering some charges against individual employees of the Trump Organization and the business itself.
Those possible charges include failing to pay taxes on perks and benefits given from the company to employees. Many media outlets have reported that some perks included apartments and cars, but only involved a small group of higher-up executives.
Fischetti then pressed Vance’s team if there were other charges they were pursuing, only to be flatly told, “No.” He commented to Politico:
“It’s crazy that that’s all they had.”
Politico pressed Fischetti on whether his meeting with Vance’s team touched at all on the accusations that Michael Cohen and Stormy Daniels levied on Trump. He replied:
“Nothing. Not a word on that.”
Vance’s team apparently said there won’t be any charges brought against Trump when the DA’s initial indictment is revealed. He said:
“They just said, ‘When this indictment comes down, he won’t be charged. Our investigation is ongoing.'”
Vance’s office decided not to comment to Polico for their story.
The Washington Post recently reported, though, that members of Vance’s team informed Trump’s lawyers that they will move forward with filing charges unless they are persuaded otherwise. In response, Fischetti said he expects the charges to be revealed sometime in the next week or two.
He commented:
It’s like the Shakespeare play ‘Much Ado About Nothing.’ This is so small that I can’t believe I’m going to have to try a case like this.”
All along, Trump and his team of attorneys have said that Vance’s investigation is nothing but a witch hunt. They said the Democratic DA has had it out for Trump for a while, and his office is trying everything they can to take down the former president.
They’ve approached this by going after the Trump Organization, which has been under investigation by the Manhattan DA’s office for years now.
Vance event went to the Supreme Court to receive authorization to get the personal tax records of Trump. The DA’s office then convened a grand jury to ultimately decide whether charges should be brought against either Trump himself or the Trump Organization.
Investigators have recently received loads of information and documents from the former daughter-in-law of Allen Weisselberg, the chief financial officer of the Trump Organization. That brought increased media attention to the case in recent weeks.
So far, though, neither the Manhattan DA’s office nor the New York Attorney General’s office has filed any official criminal or civil charges against Trump or his company.
Will they do so? Only time will tell.
