Donald Trump’s legal team has seized on documents included in a recent court filing submitted by one of his co-defendants in the Fulton County, Georgia election interference case, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
A motion to disqualify filed on January 8 by attorneys representing former Trump campaign official Michael Roman, alleges that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis had been engaged in an “improper” relationship with Nathan Wade, the special prosecutor who headed up the election interference investigation.
Included in the exhibits attached to the motion was billing information Wade submitted to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office that revealed that Wade had two meetings at the White House on May 23 and November 18, 2022.
Screen captures of the billing information spread like wildfire on social media, with Trump supporters accusing Wade of coordinating with the White House in his investigation into Donald Trump.
In a filing on January 10, attorneys representing Donald Trump in the Fulton County case requested further information about the meetings.
The invoices Wade submitted showed that he billed the District Attorney’s Office $2,000 for the May 23 meeting at the White House Counsel’s office. He billed another $2,000 for the November 18 meeting, which Wade described as an “interview with DC/White House.”
Trump’s attorneys also asked for additional information about two billing items from April and May 2022 listed as “conf w/Jan 6,” a September 2022 item listed as “conf call DC,” and a November 2022 item listed as “Jan 6 meeting and Atty conf.”
The Trump team is asking the judge in the case, Fulton Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee, to compel prosecutors to produce any correspondence the chairman of the Jan 6 select committee had with the Fulton County special prosecutor.
In a January 8 post on Truth Social, Trump accused President Biden and the Justice Department of participating “in the persecution of his Political Opponent!”
