Family Launches GoFundMe for Wendy Williams’ Independence

The family of former daytime talk show host Wendy Williams has initiated a GoFundMe campaign titled “Support Wendy Williams’ Fight for Independence.” The fundraiser aims to collect $50,000 to assist Williams in challenging what her family describes as an unjust and isolating guardianship. This move comes after Williams was diagnosed with aphasia and frontotemporal dementia in May 2023, leading to a court-ordered guardianship that her family claims has cut her off from friends and loved ones.

According to reports, Williams’ family has depleted their financial resources in their ongoing battle against the guardianship. They are now turning to the public for support to secure legal representation and potentially bring Williams back to Florida, where she can be surrounded by her family and support network.

In a surprising turn of events, Williams herself called into The Breakfast Club radio show to plead for her freedom. She described her current situation in stark terms, likening it to imprisonment and emotional abuse. This public outcry has brought renewed attention to her case and the complexities surrounding guardianship arrangements for public figures.

“I am not cognitively impaired, but I feel like I am in prison,” Wendy Williams said.

Williams also claims to have only $15 to her name.

Wow…

Legal and Medical Complexities

The situation is further complicated by statements from Williams’ attorney, Roberta Kaplan, who has stated that Williams is dealing with frontal lobe dementia, a neurological disease with no known cure that requires lifelong care. This presents a challenging scenario where Williams’ expressed desires for independence conflict with medical assessments of her condition.

And even further adding to the complexity, Williams’ legal guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, is prohibited from commenting on the situation due to a court order.

Williams’ family expresses deep concern over her current living situation in New York, far from her support system in Florida. They hope that by raising funds, they can not only challenge the guardianship legally but also facilitate Williams’ return to a more supportive environment among loved ones.
