Dramatic Arson Attempt Caught on Video
Surveillance footage from Pure Cannabis Outlet at 15311 South Dixie Highway in Monroe, Michigan, captured the incident on May 10, 2026. A Jeep Cherokee rammed through the front entrance at 1:05 a.m. Eastern time. Two masked suspects entered. One poured gasoline across counters while the other grabbed product worth about $50. The fuel ignited into a fireball, engulfing one suspect’s right hand and foot in flames.[1][2][3]
The suspects fled through the parking lot, with flames trailing one as he ran. Witnesses saw them enter an unknown dark-colored getaway vehicle. The store’s sprinklers activated, extinguishing the fire quickly. Pure Cannabis Outlet sustained minimal damage and reopened the same day.[3]
Owner Suspects Targeted Attack Amid Industry Violence
Mike Bahoura, owner of Pure Cannabis Outlet, operated the business for over three years without incidents. He reviewed the footage and stated the attack felt targeted. “I never thought anybody would take it to this level… it definitely feels targeted,” Bahoura said. He initially thought it was a smash-and-grab but changed his view after seeing the arson attempt.[3]
Bahoura described the suspects’ actions as “definitely amateur hour,” noting one lit the gasoline while the other jumped back over the counter. Despite the incompetence, he questions the randomness, especially given Michigan’s saturated cannabis market with over 1,100 dispensary licenses by 2025. The state reported more than 250 thefts, burglaries, and arsons in 2023-2025.[3]
Sheriff’s Investigation Points to Opportunistic Criminals
Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough classified the case as breaking and entering and arson. Deputies found the Jeep Cherokee, confirmed stolen from Detroit 45 miles away, partially inside the store. A Sheriff’s canine unit tracked the suspects’ path and collected evidence from inside the store.[3]
No links to competitors have emerged. The use of an out-of-area stolen vehicle and product theft suggest opportunists, not sophisticated rivals. Owners often blame competition in the post-2018 legalization era, but resolved cases show under 5% involve rivals, with most tied to theft rings or addicts.[3]
