Schiff Mocks GOP For Plan To Expunge Trump’s Impeachment

If Republicans try to vote in Congress to erase Donald Trump’s impeachment, California Democrat Adam Schiff warned on MSNBC’s “The Sunday Show” this week, they’re engaging in a “farce.”

Jonathan Capehart, the anchor, said that Speaker McCarthy has indicated he favors expunging Donald Trump’s impeachment. He asked Schiff what he thought about that possibility.

Schiff stated that there is no constitutional provision or mechanism to do such a thing. It’s a complete and total farce.

He said that McCarthy and the Republican leadership in Congress have demonstrated that they would go to whatever lowly level to advance Trump’s agenda. Schiff said it would be an empty show of respect for their worst and least ethical leader, adding that Kevin McCarthy probably won’t have any issues with it.

Last month, Reps. Marjorie Taylor Green (R-GA) and Elise Stefanik (R-NY) introduced companion resolutions Thursday to overturn President Trump’s impeachment in 2019 and 2021.

Stefanik’s bill would prevent Trump’s impeachment in 2021 on insurrection charges, arguing that the facts on which those articles were based were insufficient to establish that the former president had committed “high Crimes and Misdemeanors.”

By cutting off funds to Ukraine to force the country into investigating then-presidential contender Joe Biden, Greene’s resolution calls for Biden’s impeachment in 2019 for abuse of authority and obstruction of Congress.

On Thursday, the conservative women of Congress released a unified statement defending their proposal.

The authority of impeachment was used by Democrats “to advance their extreme political agenda,” Stefanik claimed in a news release.

Adan Schiff used the exact words “advance an agenda” to describe the Republican’s efforts for Trump’s impeachment expungement.

Marjorie Taylor Greene said she’s honored to work with Chairwoman Stefanik to clear President Trump’s reputation and set the record straight through their joint resolutions.
