Axios Claims Open Border Narrative Is a Myth

Since President Joe Biden entered the oval office in January of 2021, America has been faced with many problems. Inflation has crushed the American middle class, which was already shrinking, and wages have largely stagnated. The cost of living continues to increase, and many working class citizens are unable to afford basic necessities. Over 60% of the nation is estimated to be living from paycheck to paycheck; in truth, the American dream is on life support. Compounding this, in the period of time that has elapsed since Biden began his first term as the 46th president of the United States, there has been a major crisis at the nations southern border. Since he began his presidency, it is estimated that over 5 million illegal migrants have entered the nation. These migrants are often unskilled and uneducated, and often take manual labor and menial jobs in the workforce in industries like construction or restaurant services, allowing many businesses to keep wages down and hindering the prosperity of legal American citizens.

While the border crisis continues to worsen, the president and his administration remain unwilling or unable to address the problem. The sitting director of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas has been under intense scrutiny by many conservative politicians. After openly opposing Trumps border wall in 2021 at the onset of Bidens presidency, Mayorkas has reversed course and recently claimed it to be sorely needed.

Despite this clear dereliction of duty by Biden and his administration, media outlets aligned with progressive causes continue to minimize the reality of the situation. On Tuesday, October 17th, Axios made an assertion that conservative politicians and political activists are spreading disinformation on the crisis at the border and that the situation is in control. In a tweet, Axios claimed that when conservatives use the term “open border”, they are claiming that it is easy for individuals to enter the nation. Axios asserts the problem is not serious.
