President Biden underwent a physical at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center last Wednesday and was declared “fit for duty,” NBC News reported.
According to White House doctor Kevin C. O’Connor’s assessment, the president was fully able to execute “all of his responsibilities” without accommodations or exceptions.
Based on the February 28 assessment, Biden’s ongoing health issues, like the stiffened gait, atrial fibrillation, and seasonal allergies, remained stable. In the past year, Biden began using a positive airway pressure machine to address his sleep apnea and had a basal cell sarcoma skin lesion removed from his chest.
According to the assessment, the president needed no further treatment for the sarcoma as that type of cancer typically does not metastasize.
Dr. O’Connor described President Biden as a “healthy, active, robust 81-year-old.”
However, the president’s physical did not include any cognitive testing to address concerns over Biden’s mental capabilities.
When asked about the president’s physical in last Wednesday’s press briefing, press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed that doctors decided that Biden did not need a cognitive examination.
She claimed that the president “passes a cognitive test every day,” simply by doing his job.
President Biden has not undergone a single cognitive test during either of his previous physicals since taking office.
The White House last month hit back against special counsel Robert Hur for mentioning Biden’s failing memory in his final report on his investigation into Biden’s mishandling of classified documents.
Democrat officials quickly came to Biden’s defense, claiming that the president was both physically and mentally fit despite his advanced age and very public verbal and physical stumbles.
Republicans, meanwhile, seized on Hur’s report as further proof that Biden is not mentally capable of serving in office.
Following the release of Hur’s report, an ABC News/Ipsos poll found that 86 percent of respondents believed that Biden was too old to serve another four years in office, including 73 percent of Democrats.
