Minyon Moore Named Chair Of DNC

The Democratic Party is doubling down on its efforts to reach out to Black women voters, this week naming Minyon Moore to serve as the 2024 Democratic National Convention’s chair.

Moore played a central role as an adviser to President Joe Biden when he was choosing who he would nominate to fill a vacancy on the Supreme Court. That nomination eventually went to Ketanji Brown Jackson, who is the first Black woman to serve on the high court.

Moore is a native of Chicago and considered to be a close confidante of failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. She’s widely credited as having played a huge role in getting Kamala Harris named as Biden’s running mate during the 2020 presidential election.

The remaining members of the DNC team are considered to be close allies of Biden, which makes sense considering he’s widely expected to be the Democratic nominee for president in 2024.

The convention’s executive director will be Alex Hornbrook, who led the process of selecting the convention. Louisa Terrell was named as a senior adviser to the DNC, and she’ll also serve in a similar role for the Biden-Harris re-election campaign.

Roger Lau, who serves as the deputy executive director of the Democratic National Committee, will serve as a senior adviser for the Biden Victory Fund. This is a new expanded role that will also include advising the overall operations of the convention itself.

Jaime Harrison, the chair of the DNC, released a statement this week saying the convention team has “unmatched” experience, and they will bring all that expertise to what’s expected to be a huge event.

She said in the statement:

“At the very beginning of the 2024 convention selection process, I said that we were looking for a turnkey operation, and I am confident this leadership team will deliver.”

In a statement of her own, Moore remarked that she’s “thrilled” to be the chair of the convention “in my hometown of Chicago, Illinois.” She continued:

“I am grateful to the team members who have already been working hard, and know that through their work, and the strong team we continue to build, that this convention will be a success.

“I can’t wait to showcase all that Chicago and the Democratic Party have to offer as we celebrate the renomination of President Biden and Vice President Harris next year.”

The Democratic National Convention will be held from August 19 through August 22 next year. It will be held in Chicago, which was selected over New York City and Atlanta to be the host.

Moore began working in politics for the presidential campaign of the Reverend Jesse Jackson. She eventually became a power player for the Democratic Party in Washington, D.C.

She worked in the White House during the Clinton administration, and also worked on the presidential campaign for Hillary Clinton. She once served as the Democratic National Committee’s CEO, and is a close personal friend of former President Barack Obama.
